Geothermal Energy in Canada

Geothermal energy is a renewable energy that comes from hot fluid and rocks within the earth's sub-surface. First discovered in the early 1900s, the demand for geothermal energy has grown over the course of the last century. Geothermal energy in Canada is slowly beginning to take off - especially as an energy source to heat and cool residential and commercial buildings.

Geothermal Energy Projects In Canada

Plans to construct Canada's very first geothermal plant were announced in early 2019. The government invested $25.6M to fund the construction of the geothermal power facility in Estevan, Saskatchewan. The facility is expected to power approximately 5,000 homes and offset 27,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year - equivalent to removing 7,400 cars off the roads.

As interest and investment in geothermal energy in Canada grows, Graybar Canada is providing producers across the country with forward-thinking solutions and industry-leading service to accelerate project success.
