Plans to construct Canada's very first geothermal plant were announced in early 2019. The government invested $25.6M to fund the construction of the geothermal power facility in Estevan, Saskatchewan. The facility is expected to power approximately 5,000 homes and offset 27,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year - equivalent to removing 7,400 cars off the roads.
